Wednesday May 30, 2007 DeFuniak Springs, FL

Hi everyone!! This is about the best of all worlds. I checked in early, took a shower, had a light dinner, and now I sit here banging away on my ‘puter watching the Tribe try to avoid the sweep @ Boston and drinking a cold beer (or three) Pronk just doubled and tied it up @ 2 in the 5th.
I left late today. Had to say goodbye to Charlie and the gang. Charlie was sitting in his easy chair when I got there, and sitting there when I left. In between times, he got up to either go to bed, go to the bathroom, or mix bloody marys. (of course he makes the best bloody marys in the world) It was good to see him. He's one of the few people that has a sense of humor that's more warped than mine, but I was glad to get out of such a smoke filled environment. Even the clean clothes that I put on this morning smelled like smoke.
Central Fla. has these nasty little bugs called “love bugs”. I guess someone thought they would take care of the mosquito problem, but now they’re just a nuisance. They fly in pairs, as the name would suggest, and pretty much put a real mess on your car. I’ve tried cleaning them off every day, but it wasn’t until this afternoon that I checked in when I found a wash bay that I was able to do a real good cleaning of the bike. Of course, because I washed it, I will now be traveling into rain tomorrow. I’ve been lucky so far in that there have been no showers that have impeded the trip.
Today was an easy 400 miles. It was short because I left late, and I took a nice lunch break at an Arby’s. I took my lunch to a picnic table outside to share some shade (it was 90 degrees) with a couple driving back home to St Louise, and to keep an eye on the bike. We got to talking, and after I told them what I was doing, they gave me some ideas on where to visit. They are originally from Cal. And said I should do Yosemite, and the coast drive north of ‘Frisco. Well – Mark said I should do Yosemite also, and it certainly looks like I’ll have the time, so it looks like I’ll have another destination to add to my travails. (Tribe just took a 4-2 lead in the 6th)
I think I’m going to try and slow down just a little bit because I’m sooooo far ahead of schedule. (Tribe just took a 6-2 lead) After tomorrow, I’ll be almost halfway into the 4corners, but I’ll have been on the road for only a week. At this rate, things will be finished after 2 weeks are gone, so either slow down (yeh–right) or see more stuff. Of course, you have to give yourself a little room for weather problems or breakdowns – right?
GO TRIBE!!!!!
