Left a lot later than I wanted to this morning. Actually, it was yesterday morning. Things were kinda screwed up for Tuesday. By the time I eased into the morning and paid some last minute bills before I left, then got my first tank of gas, it was almost 10:30. I took off with my light jacket, but had to switch to my heavier one when I got to the Pa border. Gas up again in Angola NY and had to add my liner – it was cold along the lake. The drive along the NY thruway was just boring. Along with more than $10 in tolls, I thought I started hearing strange sounds coming from what sounded like the exhaust system. I found out you lose a lot of energy worrying, cause I was exhausted when the day was done. I had previously decided to get off in Utica and take rt 8 to I-87. This missed Albany and cut off quite a few miles, but as nice a ride it was, it was getting close to dusk and rt 8 is nothing but forests and I was quite concerned about deer jumping in front me . It was kind of funny going thru the first few towns (if you want to call them that) on rt 8 – in order they were Poland, Russia, Norway, and Ohio. Anyway, once I got on I-87, the first sign I saw was “next exit-57 miles”. So I got off looking for gas and a room. After traveling about 15 miles and what the locals consider a main rd., I came across the town of Schroon Lake. There is plenty of gas, but these people are still living in the fifties when it comes to accomadations. They all seem to be cottages that haven’t been updated since new. No chain motels anywhere to be found, and nobody seemed to even know where the closest one was. I settled on the Maple Leaf Motel and a sub sandwich from the deli/gas station across the street. One sandwich – and it was too much, I won’t do that again.
Talked to Weez at night and she found me a Honda dealer in Plattsburgh via the internet to stop at in the morning.
